Porto Katsiki (Lefkada)

South-west coast of Lefkada, near Athani (70 km / about 1 hour 25 minutes from Preveza)

One of Greece's best-known beaches, at the foot of a pale cliff on Lefkada's south-west coast, reached by steps from the cliff-top car park or by boat. 1 hour 25 minutes from Preveza.

About Porto Katsiki (Lefkada)

Porto Katsiki lies at the foot of a tall, pale cliff on the south-west coast of Lefkada, near the cape of Lefkatas and the village of Athani, 35 km from Lefkada town and about 70 km (1 hour 25 minutes) from Preveza. Its name means "goat port": it is said that only goats could once reach it.

The beach is of stones and the water is deep: it drops away fast inside the bay, and beyond the headlands the sea reaches 350 m. It became known in the mid-1990s, once a modern road reached the area, and it is now one of the most famous beaches in Greece. The strong earthquake of November 2015 damaged it in part; geologists expected it to restore itself over time.

There are car parks and canteens at the top of the cliff, and a stairway leads down to the beach. There is nowhere to stay and camping is not allowed. In summer, boats bring visitors from Nydri and Vasiliki.

Good to know

  • The canteens are at the top of the cliff, by the car parks.
  • In summer you can also come by boat from Nydri or Vasiliki.

Help keep it unspoiled: take your rubbish with you, never light fires outdoors in summer, and respect wildlife and local life. How to travel responsibly
