The sandy beach below the village of Kanali, on the long Ionian shore north of Preveza: hotels, rooms and tavernas in summer, 15 minutes from town.

About Kanali Beach

Kanali is a village about 15 km north-west of Preveza, on the road to Igoumenitsa, about 70 m above the sea. It first grew along the main road; in recent decades it has spread down towards the shore, where there are now quite a few hotels, rooms to rent and places to eat. With its sandy beach it is a well-known summer destination for the area.

The beach is part of the long Ionian shoreline that starts at Monolithi, just north of Preveza, and runs on past Kanali to Kastrosykia. To the west Kanali merges into Nea Thesi, which is really its continuation, so in summer you can walk a long way along the sand.

About 900 people lived in Kanali in 2011.

Good to know

  • It is the closest of the northern beaches to have a village with food and rooms right behind it, so it works for a short evening swim.
  • The coast faces west: stay for the sunset.
  • For emptier sand, walk along the shore in either direction.

Help keep it unspoiled: take your rubbish with you, never light fires outdoors in summer, and respect wildlife and local life. How to travel responsibly
