About Egremni (Lefkada)
Egremni is a remote beach on the south-west coast of Lefkada, about 2 km long, below the cliffs of the Ionian. It is 4 km from the village of Athani, 38 km from Lefkada town and about 64 km (1 hour 15 minutes) from Preveza.
It became one of the island's best-known beaches after a sealed road reached the area in the mid-1990s; Travel + Leisure counted it among the places with the bluest water in the world. Getting down was never easy: visitors had to walk down about 350 steps.
The earthquake of 17 November 2015 changed the whole area: great masses of earth fell, and much of the beach was covered in rubble. Boats from Vasiliki also reach Egremni and Porto Katsiki, which are much harder to get to from land.
Good to know
- Ask locally whether the way down from the road is open before you set off: the 2015 earthquake changed the area.
- Boats from Vasiliki reach the beach from the sea.
Help keep it unspoiled: take your rubbish with you, never light fires outdoors in summer, and respect wildlife and local life. How to travel responsibly
