About Municipal Maritime Museum of Preveza

The Municipal Maritime Museum, also called the Naval Battle Museum, was set up in 2002 with European funding. Preveza sits at the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf, where the Battle of Actium was fought in 31 BC and the Battle of Preveza in 1538, and the museum tells the story of the town's place in naval history.

Its centrepiece is a large table map with models of the ships, made of matchsticks, set out as they fought. Points on the map show more information. A historical film by the Greek-Swedish director Tzokas is also shown.

The museum does not keep fixed opening hours, so arrange a visit with the Municipality's culture office first.
