Preveza's municipal art gallery, in a 19th-century town house in the old centre, named after the painter Giannis Moralis, who lived in Preveza as a boy.
About Giannis Moralis Municipal Gallery (Athanasiadis House)
The gallery occupies the Athanasiadis House, a typical example of 19th-century Preveza town architecture. It was the home of Athanasios Athanasiadis, a pioneering teacher who lived in Preveza before the town joined the Greek state, and it later served as an inn. The Municipality bought it in the late 1980s, planning a folklore museum.
In 2010 the Municipality turned it into the municipal art gallery and named it after Giannis (Ioannis) Moralis, one of the best-known Greek painters of the 20th century. Moralis lived in Preveza from 1922 to 1927, when his father was head of the town's secondary school.
Since 2012 the gallery has hosted painting and visual-art exhibitions, cultural events and artistic activities. There is no permanent collection on show, so what you see depends on the current programme.
