Vasiliki (Lefkada)

Vasiliki, south coast of Lefkada (64 km / about 1 hour 10 minutes from Preveza)

A seaside village and port on Lefkada's south coast, famous for windsurfing on its afternoon wind, and the starting point for boats to Porto Katsiki and Egremni. 1 hour 10 minutes from Preveza.

About Vasiliki (Lefkada)

Vasiliki, once called Voivoda, is a seaside village and port on the south coast of Lefkada, 38 km from Lefkada town, 22 km south-west of Nydri and about 64 km (1 hour 10 minutes) from Preveza. It had 395 residents in the 2011 census.

It is known across Europe for windsurfing. A thermal wind, which windsurfers call "Eric", rises in the afternoon as the land warms up, and there are often more than a hundred windsurfers in the bay at once. The beach, with its shallow water and shelter from the waves, suits both swimming and windsurfing; the area is also popular with sailors and cyclists.

The port serves pleasure craft, fishing boats and day boats. Tourist boats leave from here for Porto Katsiki and Egremni, which are much harder to reach by land, and ferries link Vasiliki with Kefalonia and Ithaca.

Good to know

  • Come in the afternoon to watch the windsurfers when the wind picks up.
  • Take a boat from the port to Porto Katsiki and Egremni.

Help keep it unspoiled: take your rubbish with you, never light fires outdoors in summer, and respect wildlife and local life. How to travel responsibly
